Description:

Community Board 8's  Economic Development Committee will be holding its monthly meeting to review applications from local bars and restaurants for new liquor licenses, renewal of existing licenses and extension of licenses to permit alcohol to be served in rear yards.   On the agenda this month are 10 renewals or new applications for businesses in Prospect Heights. While the State Liquor Authority makes the final determination, input from the community board can help shape guidelines as to how these businesses operate in order to preserve the quality of life for residents in the community.

Input from the community board is also significant in cases where a bar or restaurant is subject to the 500 foot rule, which restricts the approval of full liquor licenses if the location is within a 500 foot radius of three other businesses with full liquor licenses.  In those cases, the presumption is that the SLA will not grant a license unless it can be demonstrated that it is in the public interest to do so.  In addition to the community board's recommendation, a public hearing is required to make a determination for these applications. The public hearing agenda can be found on the State Liquor Authority's website.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 PM at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, 727 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY (between Park and Prospect).
