Volunteers needed for Underhill Playground lock up
Posted: July 5, 2010 - 12:00am

Friends of Underhill Playground is organizing volunteers to help with locking up the playground at night.

Why lock up?

The Parks Department is coming by the playground to turn off the sprinklers (approximately 6:00 PM), but does not have the staff to do a later lock up. The Friends would like to help keep the playground open for everyone's enjoyment during the long summer days and lock-up at dusk when the park is officially closed.

There have been several reports about people in the playground after hours. The Friends feel that volunteer lock-up during the summer is the best way to help keep the park open for families to enjoy and to ensure the grounds stay clean and safe for our children.

How to volunteer

Email margo.galpin@gmail.com with when you are available to lock-up (ideally volunteers will be teamed up to cover one week at a time, but the organizers are open to whatever availability you can offer).

How to lock up

The lock up procedure is very easy:

  • Go to the playground between 8:00 and 9:00 PM
  • Let everyone know it's time to lock up(plan on giving them 5 - 10 minutes to collect their things).
  • Once everyone is out, lock the gate (Friends of Underhill Playground will provide a key for your shift).

The Friends have done the lock-up for two summers now and it has been fairly easy. There are usually two or three families still using the playground at 8:00 PM and they have been cooperative and understanding about lock up.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
