The Atlantic Yards Community Liaison has published a notice to the public that beginning on Monday, December 21, 2009, the following streets in Brooklyn will undergo directional changes:
- Fifth Avenue, between Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues, will become northbound only
- Pacific Street, between Fifth/Sixth Avenues, will become two-way
These changes will accommodate utility upgrades underneath the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Pacific Street/Flatbush Avenue. Southbound traffic on the affected streets can use Sixth Avenue.
Advisory signs will be posted in advance of the closure and detour signs will be posted during the work. Traffic agents will be assigned to facilitate the flow of traffic and pedestrians. Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained on the affected streets at all times. City services will be maintained in the area at all times.
These changes may be followed by a full closure of Fifth Avenue (between Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues), Pacific Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues), and Pacific Street (between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues) in early 2010. The Atlantic Yards Community Liaison Office can be reached at (866) 923-5315 or by email to communityliaison@atlanticyards.com.
