Free tax assistance available at the Brooklyn Public Library

If you have children and earn $53,000 or less,, or have no children and earn $18,000 or less, you can receive free assistance filing your tax return at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site operated by the City's Department of Consumer Affairs. For Prospect Heights residents, the closest VITA site is nearby at the Brooklyn Public Library, room 216.

VITA site preparers are IRS-trained and certified to help you file your taxes and claim credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the NYC Child Care Tax Credit (NYC CCTC).
