The 78th Precinct community council is a non-partisan group which meets with police officials to exchange mutual views and seek ways to solve local problems.

(Note that the boundaries of the 78th Precinct have been adjusted to accommodate the opening of Barclays Center. The 78th Precinct now covers Prospect Heights west of Vanderbilt Avenue. East of Vanderbilt Avenue is covered by the 77th Precinct.)

 The CB8 SLA and Sidewalk Cafe Review Committee has the following responsibilities:

  • Review and discuss both new and renewal applications for establishments seeking liquor licenses from New York State Liquor Authority for clubs, bars, restaurants, local grocery stores, and other establishments in the District
  • Review and discuss applications for Dept. of Consumer Affairs Sidewalk Cafe permits and Dept. of City Planning Enclosed Sidewalk Cafe permits.

The Committee meets on the first Monday of each month except for July and August at the CNR - Center Light Health Center located on Classon Avenue at the corner of Park Place.

NYPD’s 78th Precinct will be responsible for policing the arena as well as enforcement of traffic and parking rules, protection of pedestrian safety and regulation of public behavior within a one-half mile radius around the arena block.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and answer questions regarding safety and quality of life concerns in residential communities after the September arena opening.
