Description:

As Rome wasn’t built in a day, so it is true long term community issues aren’t fixed in one day. Brooklyn Community Board #8 co-sponsors Tools and Resources Men Need for 2010 and Beyond with Interfaith Medical Center, Downstate Medical Center Teens Helping Each Other and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office to begin a continuing conversation with men.

This conference, slated for Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 12 noon to 5 pm, is a day for men—from teen to elder—to assemble for sound reasoning. The arts will be used to stimulate thought and conversation. Lyricist/poet Abu Mohammed and storyteller/pantomime Sista Zaraya will offer poems about manhood. Teens Helping Each Other will perform an educational drama.

The panel discussion, What I Wish My Father Told Me, is designed to be interactive. Panelists Mark Winston Griffith, Mark Pollard, Esq., Louis Reyes Rivera and Jitu Weusi will limit themselves to ten minutes each to allow ample time for audience reaction.

Breakout session topics are Work and Business in the Green Economy; Men’s Health including Doctor Phobia; and Men’s Relationships with Women and Children. Master Sabu of Humble Dojo will do a short martial arts demonstration proving strength and agility can be had at any age.

Tools and Resources Men Need for 2010 and Beyond promises to be a time to think, talk and collect readily usable information.
