The New York City Comptroller, an independently elected official, is the Chief Financial Officer of the City of New York. The mission of the office is to ensure the financial health of New York City by advising the Mayor, the City Council, and the public of the City's financial condition. The Comptroller also makes recommendations on City programs and operations, fiscal policies, and financial transactions. In addition, the Comptroller manages close to $105 billion. in pension funds, performs budgetary analysis, audits city agencies, registers proposed contracts, oversees budget authorization, determines credit needs, terms and conditions, prepares warrants for payment and issues and sells City obligations.
The Office of the Public Advocate has an Ombudsman Services Unit, which assists constituents who have complaints, problems, or inquiries involving government-related services at the City, State, and Federal levels. The unit provides information and referrals and works closely with City agencies to find solutions to problems.

The borough president is an advocate for the entire Borough of Brooklyn and all its residents, who represents the borough's interests within city government and presents Brooklyn's priorities to the state and federal governments as well. He works with the mayor in preparing the annual executive budget presented to the City Council, and also communicates Brooklyn's budget priorities directly to the council.
The borough president reviews major land use decisions and proposes sites for city facilities within Brooklyn. As chair of the Borough Service Cabinet, he convenes hearings to receive city agencies' testimony on issues of public concern.

Governor Paterson is the head of the executive branch of New York State Government, with oversight of state agencies such as the Empire State Development Corporation and the New York State Department of Transportation.
